Be Ready and Proactive

Through my life journey, I’ve come to realize that having a consistent ability to be proactive is not a scheme that is arbitrarily applied to life, but requires mindfulness and continued refinement. It takes an entire shift in perspective and mindset to embrace fate and learn to adapt to it rather than resisting the nature of life at every turn. Aligning our perspective with the reality of nature and resisting the urge to try and fix things that are out of our control that we perceive to be imperfections is incredibly difficult, yet very simple if we focus on the foundational components and maintain consistency with the basics. Strive to be prepared for whatever comes by refining yourself through challenges, difficulties or surprises. In every aspect of life, we grow as individuals, becoming our better selves through facing challenges and learning and adapting to them. Many times we learn more and achieve more in the long run with failures than we do with a string of successes.

Teaching with Foresight: My Experience as an ESL Associate Professor in Seoul

It is important to be prepared for the unexpected. Always having supplementary materials and alternative lesson plans ready for any situation allows for greater flexibility. One time, a guest speaker had to cancel at the last minute due to an emergency. Instead of trying to find a replacement or canceling class, I was able to use a lesson plan that was prepared beforehand. The point is not to just have something available, but to still be able to perform the class at the highest level possible without interruption to their learning process.

Takeaway: Having foresight ensures that life can continue smoothly despite unexpected events. This highlights the value of being ready for situations and circumstances outside of your control. Always have a Plan B, even a Plan C, D, etc.

Turning a Global Shutdown into an Opportunity: My Experience as a Fitness Gym Owner in Bali

As a fitness gym owner in Bali, the global pandemic hit hard, presenting a challenge that could have spelled disaster — clients leaving, workouts disrupted, chaos ensuing. The external situation that dictated the level of functionality of the business in our geographic location is an uncontrollable part of the equation. If you can find the determination not to let those things fully dictate the outcome, you can implement contingency plans that can see you through to the otherside. It will not be easy, will require a great deal of grit, adaptability and thinking outside of the box. All of which does not guarantee success, but will inherently give you the best chances in addition to the added benefits of experiencing incredible levels of personal growth through the process.

Takeaway: Have a proactive adaptive mindset that allows you to manage the extreme events (global shutdown) efficiently. Your readiness will ensure continued smooth operations, reinforcing the importance of planning and adaptability in business and life.

Health Coaching: Guiding Clients Through Unexpected Challenges

As a health and fitness coach, something that can not be controlled are the events that occur outside of the individual training sessions with clients. The natural order of life is that change is inevitable and circumstances such as sickness, obligations, unforeseen injury, among others will happen at some point. We can come to accept these things as “normal,” but it does not mean that they have to be blindly accepted to the extent that it destroys everything that is built. Proactively build pre-emptive plans to easily adapt and modify to external circumstances. This will minimize the negative impact of the situation in of itself as well as minimize the overall setbacks and get clients back on track once things return back to relative normality.

Takeaway: Be adaptable so that you can turn unexpected challenges into a positive experience for any client. It highlights the benefits of being proactive in coaching and life.

Practical Tips for Everyday Readiness

Drawing from my life and business experiences, navigating through and managing unforeseen challenges, I’ve cultivated a proactive mindset that keeps me ready for anything. Here are some practical tips that have helped me:

  • Anticipate Challenges: Always think ahead about potential issues and plan for them as best as possible. Consider what could go wrong and how I can be prepared.
  • Stay Informed: Stay informed about trends and developments in my field of interest. Knowledge allows me the opportunity to anticipate changes and adapt efficiently.
  • Develop alternative Plans: Always have a backup plan no matter the situation. It will save the day when things don’t go as expected.
  • Practice Flexibility: Life as is nature is unpredictable. Flexibility and adaptability should be practiced daily to prepare me to handle unexpected changes with calmness and strength.
  • Never stop learning: maintain a beginner’s mindset and keep learning and growing. The more skills and knowledge I have, the better prepared I’ll be to tackle all challenges that come my way.

As I integrate these into my daily life, I’ve managed to stay proactive and ready for unexpected obstacles. Whether it’s navigating a global pandemic or overcoming daily challenges, being prepared and adaptable has made all the difference.

Laughing at Life’s Surprises

Being ready and proactive doesn’t mean that there is no fun or laughter to be had. A good sense of humor can be one of my best tools. Life is full of unexpected twists and turns, and responding with laughter and rolling with the punches will help maintain your sanity. I embrace the surprises, take joy in the journey, and remember that plans will inherently never go 100% the way you originally thought they will. Mike Tyson famously said, “Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face.”

So, plan well, prepare thoroughly, and when life throws a curveball, swing with confidence. No matter the result — remember that life is a game and games are fun.

Embrace the Proactive Lifestyle

Being proactive is about more than avoiding disasters; it’s about embracing life with a spirit of adaptability and resilience. By fostering the ability to anticipate challenges, prepare thoroughly, and adapt swiftly it continues to transform my life. As I face today’s challenges and surprises, I strive to be ready and proactive, turn obstacles into opportunities and make the most out of every moment. I will find every opportunity to laugh along the way.

Be ready for whatever life throws your way. You might end up with a story worth telling.
